Zion National Park Weather

It is not hard to forecast the Zion National Park weather, still it would not be an exaggeration to say that its weather shows a diverse range of climatic conditions with some unpredictable changes too. Its temperature varies from 70°F to 105°F for the day and 45°F to 75°F for the night, from May to October. However, if you are lucky you can take a shower in the afternoon thunderstorms on some days from July to August.. You can witness some snowfall in Zion Canyon, covering the plateaus. Without any doubt, the best seasons to visit the Park are spring and fall, when the temperatures varies from 45°F to 80°F. Nonetheless, you can experience some sharp changes in the mood of weather there, if you go from one place to another. All this is because of the Park's wide range of elevations with rugged topography. The average snowfall here hovers around 13 feet only. But heavy snowfall can easily be seen in the areas with high mountains. You will find summer days being quite hot there, yet you can find relief in lower elevation areas with some mountain breezes in evening.

It doesn't matter which month of the year you have chosen to travel there, you should always be prepared for sudden changes in the mood of the weather there. For example, the difference in temperature of the day and night could be as high as 30°F. Besides, temperature also varies a lot with the change of elevation. You will experience cooler night yet mild and clear days in the fall. Autumn starts showing its amazing colors from September in high countries, like Lava Point and Cedar Breaks. Zion Canyon is known for its mild winters. The temperature of the days in winter can easily reach 60°F or can even cross it, while it stays around 25° to 35° in the nights. However, it is not strange to witness the winter storms there, which bring either light snow or rain with them. The same winter storms bring heavy snowfall in the areas with higher elevations. These storms can last several consecutive days and can make the road icy. All the roads are plowed there except the Kolob Terrace road, which leads to Lava Point. This is why that road normally remains closed in winters. So, if you are visiting there and are unaware of the different conditions of Zion National Park weather then you must be well prepared for all of them.
